Work Completed on Main Board & Components:

  • All battery connectors washed in white vinegar. Positive connector desoldered from the board and washed in vinegar over night to remove battery corrosion.
  • Scrubbed all components with 90% alcohol.

What’s left to do?

  1. Replace power LED with purple (LED ordered)
  1. Swap stock power board for CleanPower DMG (v2.0) DC-Regulator Board. (ordered)
      • Hoping this will help with the speaker whine I’m experiencing. More on that below.
  1. Replace screen with white glass 2.6” screen. (ordered)
      • Originally ordered the wrong size screen. The 2.45” screen is almost usable but it still covers too many pixels on the edge.
  1. Replace capacitors with factory new caps (TBD)

Notes about this console

  • Speaker buzzes & whines, probably related to the IPS mod. Hoping the clean power mod will help clean that up.
  • Purchased original DMG from Japan via Sendico October 2022
  • Serial number G06491598

IPS Display Notes

Purchased from Retro Modding
If you're looking for a crisp, full-sized backlit LCD for your Game Boy, look no further than this IPS LCD kit. This kit contains everything required to give your old DMG a bright new display. In addition, the viewing area is 11% bigger than the stock display, meaning you will have to trim the shell a little bit!
The DIY kit will provide you with all that you need to install this LCD, and will require some soldering for the Game Boy speaker(not included).
  • For v4 kits, the display on the LCD may be misaligned to the viewport; holding the brightness wheel will bring up an options display, where you can adjust the horizontal and vertical position of the image to align it with the console viewport
  • On-screen battery display is a rough estimate, and may not be accurate
  • Minor soldering is required (two wires)
  • Minor shell trimming required (screw posts, viewport and contrast wheel cavity)
  • Multiple color modes to choose from
  • New to v4: "color adjust" option to allow for further customization of color palette
  • Brightness control (replaces contrast wheel)
