I have been running various Magento Community Editions on my Debian servers with Nginx, PHP-FPM & MySQL without any problems for some time, but I today I ran into some trouble installing Magento Enterprise Edition 1.8! I really had no idea what was happening because php was doing that annoying blank page thing and no errors were being logged anywhere. It wasn’t until I happened across a random forum post that my memory was jogged:
Magento Enterprise Edition requires Ioncube PHP Encoder due to some compiled “Enterprise Level” modules. Duh!
Anyhow, here’s a quick step-by-step guide to installing Ioncube on Debian Squeeze (6.0) with an nginx, php-fpm & mysql stack:
Next, run the following commands:
$ cd ~ $ wget http://downloads2.ioncube.com/loader_downloads/ioncube_loaders_lin_x86-64.tar.gz $ tar -zxvf ioncube_loaders_lin_x86-64.tar.gz $ sudo mv ioncube /usr/local/
Now based on whichever version of PHP you’re running, shove an “ioncube.ini” into PHP’s conf.d directory. I’m using PHP 5.3.x:
sudo echo "zend_extension=/usr/local/ioncube/ioncube_loader_lin_5.3.so" > /etc/php5/conf.d/ioncube.ini
If you don’t know what version you’re running, you should probably hire someone who knows what they’re doing. Now if you’re just having a bad day, you can check which version of PHP-CLI is installed by running the following command:
$ php -v PHP 5.3.5-0.dotdeb.1 with Suhosin-Patch (cli) (built: Jan 11 2011 09:08:22) Copyright (c) 1997-2009 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2010 Zend Technologies with Suhosin v0.9.32.1, Copyright (c) 2007-2010, by SektionEins GmbH
So, for the PHP 5.3.5 package that is installed on our machine, I will install the “ioncube_loader_lin_5.3.so” PHP module.
Alternatively, you can also check your PHP version by browsing to a PHP script file (say: “php_install_info.php”) with the following line of code in it:
Finally, restart PHP-FPM:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/php5-fpm restart Gracefully shutting down php5-fpm . done Starting php5-fpm done
Bam! You should have a working version of Ioncube to use with Magento Enterprise 1.8!
